1. Scooter Gennett

Perhaps the best second baseman that the Los Angeles Dodgers can target that is in the realm of possibility is none other than Scooter Gennett. Gennett had a great season with the Cincinnati Reds in 2018 that could lead the Reds to show the willingness to part ways with the second baseman.

Gennett will be a free agent after this season which puts him in prime consideration to be traded. After a great year in 2018, another strong performance in 2019 could give Gennett a pretty hefty contract, one the Reds might not be willing to match.

With that in mind, and with no real shot of contending in 2019, the Reds would be better suited in dealing Gennett prior to the season to get the maximum return. While the team could conceivably also deal him at the trade deadline, Gennett’s value would dramatically decrease if the team waited this long.

The left-handed hitting second baseman hit .310 in 2018 with 23 home runs, 92 RBIs and a .847 OPS. The power numbers would likely decrease in LA but there is no reason that Gennett can’t hit .300 surrounded by the talented bats of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Plus, Gennett absolutely mauled the Dodgers in Dodger Stadium this season and showed a comfort for the pitcher-friendly ballpark. In four games at Dodger Stadium, Gennett went 10-14 with two home runs, six RBIs and 1.929 OPS.

Add in the fact that Gennett hit .484 in all National League West ballparks last year and it is apparent that he would be a massive boost to this team.
