The Los Angeles Lakers might end up trading some young assets for the team’s second star. If so, LA might have the decision to make between Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma.

Everyone in the NBA world knows that the Los Angeles Lakers want to eventually add a second superstar alongside LeBron James to compete for the NBA title. The young core in LA is certainly talented and might one day evolve into solid all-star pieces.

The only problem is that James is not getting any younger and the Lakers need to capitalize on his talent while they can. There is a chance that by the time the young core is ready to go that James will not be the same LeBron James.

Plus, it is always nice to add external superstar pieces that you know will better the team. Nearly every title-winning team does that in the NBA and the Lakers would simply be following a tried and trusted formula.

Originally, it seemed like the Los Angeles Lakers had the 2019 offseason circled as the time in which the team would add another star. However, with the progressions in Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler‘s situation, all LA really has left to target next summer is Klay Thompson and DeMarcus Cousins.

Thompson would be a great fit but the Lakers would be throwing all the eggs in the basket in making that happen.

Instead of blindly following Thompson’s lead, the team can instead take advantage of the one-year deals now and make a trade for a true superstar. As reports develop, it seems like that star will be Anthony Davis.

If the Lakers are going to trade for Davis they have to do it now. The team will not have the same expiring contracts to throw into a deal to even make it work.

In a deal for Davis, the Lakers are undoubtedly going to have to send two young assets. Either way, Brandon Ingram is probably involved. That leaves the Lakers with the choice between adding Kyle Kuzma or Lonzo Ball. We think it should be Kuzma and here is why.
