2. Yasiel Puig: Trade

If it comes down to trading Alex Verdugo or Yasiel Puig, I am trading Yasiel Puig every day of the week. While I still think that Puig should only be traded if it is a noticeable upgrade, it seems like the Dodgers are persistent in dealing one of the outfielders this winter.

Some fans would disagree with this because they have already seen what Puig can do at the big league level and Alex Verdugo really has not proven anything yet. However, in every logistical standpoint, it makes more sense to trade Puig.

Puig is in his last year of arbitration before hitting the open market next winter. With Bryce Harper potentially coming and Puig’s distaste for being a platoon, chances are he will not be a Dodger past 2019. Why trade a young upcoming star when you can trade one year of Puig?

There is also the financial status as well as Puig is going to make significantly more money than Verdugo is going to make this season.

Of course, Puig does not have as much trade value as Verdugo because of these reasons but is still an all-star caliber player that a team could look to lock down an extension with once he is traded. It might take an extra top-30 prospect, but trading Puig is the route to take, not trading Verdugo.
