3. Chicago White Sox

With the Cleveland Indians freeing up contracts and obviously open to trading away some starting pitching this winter, the door seems to be opening in the American League Central to contend for the postseason.

While the Indians are a very solid team and could have beaten any team in the MLB Playoffs (even though they didn’t) the AL Central was easily baseball’s worst division last season. Cleveland really had no competition as the second place Minnesota Twins finished 13 games out of the race with a 78-84 record.

One of the teams to watch for is the Chicago White Sox, who have one of the best farm systems in baseball and are on the come up. While they might not yet be ready to contend for a World Series, they easily could be the surprise team of 2019, like the 2018 Oakland Athletics, that comes out of nowhere.

The White Sox are already in the market for both Bryce Harper and Manny Machado, although the chances of them landing the star seem slim. I could see Machado going there simply for the money, but Harper, probably not.

Either way, if the White Sox do or don’t land them they are looking to add pieces. With a deep farm system to plunge into, the White Sox may be interested in trading some mid-tier prospects (not any top-100 prospects) for one year of Yasiel Puig, hoping he re-signs.

For the Dodgers, this would make sense if they are trying to load up on prospects to send to the Indians for Kluber or even to trade contracts away to make space for Bryce Harper. If this deal helps them accomplish either of those things, I am all for it.
