Los Angeles Dodgers: Three unexpected potential trade targets
By Jason Reed
2. Robbie Grossman
If the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to address the surplus of left-handed hitting in the lineup then the team can obviously take a look at a switch hitter. Robbie Grossman of the Minnesota Twins is just that and would to help the Dodgers with the woes against southpaws.
Although Grossman can hit from both sides, he is better on the right side against left-handed pitching. Last season, Grossman hit .325 with 18 runs scored and 26 walks against left-handed pitching and finished the season with the eighth-best batting average against southpaws for outfielders with at least 100 plate appearances.
Grossman is not the greatest defender and that could be pretty worrisome for those that want to see the Dodgers make an outfield addition without sacrificing anything. However, in this case, the sacrifice would be worth it due to the offensive impact he would have as a middle of the order bat.
Grossman is in a similar situation as Merrifield. He is already 29 years old and only has two more years left on his deal. Thus, with the Twins’ playoff chances being slim, the front office can be smart and get something out of the Twins’ desire to rebuild.
It will still take a notable prospect or two but it would still be worth it at the end of the day. While he is no superstar, Robbie Grossman would boost the Dodgers’ World Series chances.
