Los Angeles Dodgers: Why a blockbuster trade won’t happen
By Jason Reed
The speculation surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers never stops, even after the team signs a former all-star outfielder in A.J. Pollock.
The Los Angeles Dodgers made the biggest move of the offseason (at least for the team) in signing former rival and all-star A.J. Pollock. Pollock might not have been the all-star outfielder that the fans had wanted but the signing does have upside as Pollock could have a big impact on the team’s World Series push.
The front office has also added to the bullpen by bringing in Los Angeles native Joe Kelly to anchor things down before Kenley Jansen and somewhat solved the catching problem with Russell Martin. Martin might not be an everyday guy but will split time with Austin Barnes.
It is that catching problem that continues to fuel the speculation and has many thinking that the Dodgers are not done yet. Los Angeles is still reportedly in on J.T. Realmuto after acquiring Martin and could even work Joc Pederson, who has reportedly been shopped, into a deal.
While that would be interesting it is hard to see the Los Angeles Dodgers making any sort of huge splash before the season begins, whether it is Realmuto or another potential trade target, like Corey Kluber.
It would not be surprising to see Pederson get dealt and the Dodgers can actually get a big return out of him when you consider the team’s needs. However, it will not be this blockbuster trade that the fans are expecting and will most likely leave some disappointed still.
Here is why you should not expect a blockbuster trade out of the Los Angeles Dodgers as the offseason heads into its final chapters.
