Los Angeles Rams: The Super Bowl stung but it is just the beginning
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Rams fell short of the ultimate goal in Super Bowl LIII in a loss that certainly stung for the fans. However, this is just the start for the Rams.
The Los Angeles Rams entered Super Bowl Sunday as the underdogs despite having a deeper roster and an overall more talented team. Even after defeating Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints, the New England Patriots were the betting favorites.
Bill Belichick and Tom Brady showed why they were the favorites on Sunday and beat the Rams 13-3 in perhaps the most boring Super Bowl of my life.
The Patriots did exactly what they had to do on defense to confuse the inexperienced Goff, who has not had the same elite performances out of Todd Gurley that he had in the regular season.
And while the Rams defense played a fantastic game, arguably their best of the season, the Patriots’ experience showed and Tom Brady won his sixth Super Bowl ring. I wouldn’t hold out on him retiring, either, as he has a chance to win more Super Bowls than any other NFL franchise.
The loss certainly stings and Rams fans will be feeling it on Monday. Heck, if you have the time and are really affected by this loss, I would recommend using a sick day to cope with the loss.
We all know that the Monday after the Super Bowl should be a holiday anyway.
In your time of sadness and grief, though, there is one thing to try and remember: this is just the beginning for the Los Angeles Rams.
The Los Angeles Rams still have a quarterback in his third year that outperformed Drew Brees in the NFC Championship. He did look bad in the Super Bowl but that should not be a testament of what he can offer in his career.
Goff has put up elite numbers the last two season. He may never be the best quarterback in the league but he is certainly good enough to man a Super Bowl-winning team.
Todd Gurley will get an offseason to heal and is still in the early stages of his prime. Aaron Donald and Brandin Cooks are locked down long-term and the Rams will get Cooper Kupp back from injury.
The team has also drafted extremely well under Sean McVay, who many consider to be the next coming of Belichick. There are nothing but positives surrounding the Rams, even after a Super Bowl loss.
It stings, I get it. This is the same city that had to suffer through two straight World Series losses.
It’ll be okay. This is not a team at the end of its title window, like the Seattle Seahawks team that the Patriots defeated. This is not a team that arguably overachieved, like the Atlanta Falcons team that the Patriots defeated.
This is a talented young and hungry team that is only going to be fueled by this loss. Don’t worry, the Los Angeles Rams will be back.
