1. Guard

The thing that hurt the Los Angeles Chargers so much last season was the offensive line. If Philip Rivers had a pocket to throw in like Tom Brady had all season and in the postseason then it could have been a completely different story for the Chargers.

If you look at all of the teams that beat the Chargers in the regular season they were all teams that had a good to great pass rush that got to Rivers. Even in the playoffs, the Ravens and Patriots held Rivers to mediocre games because of it.

The team certainly could upgrade at every position on the offensive line if it was a perfect world but the real area of focus for the front office this offseason has to be the guards. The team is young there and would benefit nicely from adding a veteran with experience to help block for Rivers.

The Chargers just signed Mike Pouncey last offseason and while he was not great he did do his job. The tackles weren’t particularly impressive, either, but they were not as bad as the guards.

Dan Feeney was fairly decent in his rookie year as well and just fell short of expectations. Forrest Lamp yet again battled injury and was not good when he was on the field, making fans wonder if the promise of him after the 2017 NFL Draft will simply just remain that, promise.

There is a slim chance that Lamp gets healthy and Feeney rebounds and the Chargers would already have to guards in-house. However, if the front office has any sense, it will add external help.
