Los Angeles Lakers: Why its okay that LA didn’t land Anthony Davis
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers did not trade for Anthony Davis as many were expecting the team to, which has led to some fans to hit the panic button.
When all of the reports and speculation around Anthony Davis emerged it seemed like a surefire thing that he was going to be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. With Rich Paul, who is close to LeBron James and his agent, as Davis’ agent, it seemed inevitable that the entire reason why Davis wanted out of New Orleans was to play alongside LeBron.
You cannot really blame Davis, though. The New Orleans Pelicans have been anything but competitive this season and even with Davis are not equipped enough to make any noise if they did make the NBA Playoffs.
Meanwhile, Davis could join LeBron James in LA and form one of the best 1-2 punches in the league, if not the best. It certainly is at least as good as Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry.
Despite this seeming like a perfect match the Los Angeles Lakers did not land Anthony Davis and it seemed to do more harm than good. So much was leaked about potential trade talks, which has prompted some to think that the Pelicans did this intentionally to make things awkward in LA.
Now the young Lakers core has to play with LeBron knowing that the team was simply dangling them out in a Davis trade.
That is not the only potential con as there is now worry that the Boston Celtics are going to come in and steal Davis from the Lakers in the offseason.
While that is a possibility, there really is no reason to worry about the Lakers not landing Davis at the trade deadline. Here is why.
