1. The Los Angeles Lakers were not going to win a title this season regardless

The Los Angeles Lakers not getting Anthony Davis has seemingly taken the team out of the title-picture this season. While the Lakers will most likely still be an all-star team, it is hard to see LeBron and this young core getting past Golden State in the NBA Playoffs.

Some thought that the Lakers would completely flip that narrative if they traded for Davis before the deadline. After all, as we said, Davis and LeBron would be the best 1-2 punch in the NBA.

And while it would have made the team better, the fact of the matter remains that the team still would not have gotten past Golden State with Davis in purple and gold this season.

If the Lakers were to make the deal it would have left the roster very depleted and would have left not-great assets around James and Davis to try and win a title.

However, if the team waits until the offseason the front office can simply make the move and make free agent signings accordingly. The team is going to have the money to bring in three to four free agents and can better assess the holes left by the trade than they would be able to in the regular season.

Rushing a Davis trade when a title right away was still unlikely could have backfired for the Lakers.
