The Los Angeles Lakers were unable to land Anthony Davis at the deadline and now will have to wait until the offseason, where he might be the only option.

The trade discussions between the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans for Anthony Davis went haywire, fast. The two sides were obviously unable to get a deal done and so many reports were leaked that make definitely added some tension into the Lakers’ locker room.

That does not mean that Davis is undoubtedly not going to be a Laker, however. With Rich Paul as his agent, who is also LeBron James‘ agent and friend, this has all seemed like a ruse to get AD and LeBron to team up together.

The Pelicans obviously were having none of that and did not want to give the Lakers what they want. There is a chance this summer and it probably will get done. In fact, we wrote an article detailing why it is okay that the Lakers did not get the deal done, with this summer being one of the reasons.

One of the reasons why the Davis deal has to get done for the Lakers sake is because he is the only real option available for the team this summer.

Don’t believe me? This is a crowded free agent class and there have been reports connecting the team to several stars. It seems inevitable that the Lakers will get a second star, even if it is not Davis.

There is a reason why the Lakers were willing to give up so much despite having several options available this summer: the front office knows that Davis is the only real option.

Here is why.
