Los Angeles Lakers: The positive impacts Carmelo could have
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers don’t have many more buyout options outside of Carmelo Anthony, who could have some surprising positive impacts.
The Los Angeles Lakers freed up a roster spot after trading both Ivica Zubac and Michael Beasley to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Mike Muscala. While the deal was perplexing to many fans, it was not perplexing to see what the Lakers had just done.
While it was not the only reason for the trade, the Los Angeles Lakers opened a roster spot by making this trade. With it officially being buyout season in the NBA, the Lakers had plenty of apples to pick from the tree to fill out the roster.
The only problem is that most of the options that the Lakers had are no longer realistic targets. Markieff Morris was the option with the strongest tied and he signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Enes Kanter signed with the Portland Trailblazers and Wayne Ellington signed with the Detroit Pistons.
Now the only option that remains is Carmelo Anthony, barring there being a late buyout option that the team is waiting for (which is possible).
However, it is safe to say that the Los Angeles Lakers will probably bring in Anthony, especially after the other options signed with other teams.
Most think Anthony is a negative acquisition for the Lakers. And while that might be what ends up happening, there could be some positives in signing Anthony.
Here are the potential impacts that Carmelo Anthony could bring to the Los Angeles Lakers.
