Los Angeles Lakers: Why LA shouldn’t worry about missing the playoffs
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers entered the NBA All-Star Break with a losing record and have some fans worried that the team is going to miss the postseason.
The Los Angeles Lakers were firmly in the playoff picture and even defeated the defending champion Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day. Then LeBron James went down with a groin injury, missed more time than expected and the Los Angeles Lakers started to fall.
Even upon his return, the Lakers were not great and there has only been an aura of negativity around the team. A LeBron James-led team has not been under .500 this late into the season since his rookie year and the Indiana Pacers even handed James the worst loss of his entire career.
Add that performance into the fact that the front office completely swung and missed on Anthony Davis and it might be hard to be optimistic as a Laker fan. LeBron already didn’t have the biggest supporting cast in LA and his injury and inability to really flip the team around does sour his picture in the fanbase.
Of course, this is not all LeBron’s fault and really is not his fault at all. He has shown some bad body language at times but he is still producing an atypical LeBron James season. The young core needs to step it up and needed to step it up when he was out. They didn’t.
While things might look bleak for the Lakers the fans should not have to worry at all about missing the playoffs for the sixth year in a row. Here is why.
