Los Angeles Lakers: Why it is not time to panic just yet
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Lakers were handed an ugly loss by the New Orleans Pelicans which prompted comments from LeBron James and ensuing panic.
The Los Angeles Lakers entered the 2019 NBA All-Star Break with a losing record, something unprecedented for a LeBron James-led basketball team. By that time, it was already time for many to hit the panic button, especially off the heels of the Anthony Davis drama.
Then the Lakers went out and made a huge statement win over the Houston Rockets, coming back in the latter half of the game to move the needle back to .500. While that win alone won’t grant the Lakers a playoff berth, it was promising that the team would turn the tide and that playoff LeBron had arrived.
Then the team went out and got beat by a New Orleans Pelicans squad that was without Anthony Davis. All the confidence from the game before was flushed down the drain and so was the Lakers being at .500.
The loss itself was frustrating to watch but LeBron James’ comments after the game made matters worse. James questioned the experience and urgency on the Lakers and even asked the guys if basketball was the most important thing in their lives.
It is easy to bash LeBron for his comments but he has been working with the biggest challenge of his career. At the end of the day he did sign up for this, however, his comments should not be off-putting or create a sense of panic. Here is why.
