2. Some team will offer $300 million, even if it is not the Philadelphia Phillies

You might be thinking after that last slide, “what if no team offers Bryce Harper $300 million?” At that point, the Dodgers seem like the obvious choice for Harper. If he is not getting the money anyway, might as well get the annual salary at a high rate and be on a contending team for the next half-decade.

The only problem with that logic is that there will be a team that will offer Harper uber amounts of money, even if it is not the smartest thing for said team to do.

It might not even be the team that Harper wants to play for. Perhaps the Philadelphia Phillies have already offered him a monster deal and he declined; there were reports that the Nationals even offered him $300 million, although that was early in the offseason when he likely thought he would get more.

It might not be the team he wants but if he is really about the money he can pull a Machado and sign with the highest bidder. Heck, maybe the Padres will offer him $310 million; maybe it will be the White Sox or any team with cap space for that matter.

At the end of the day, Harper is 26 years old and there should be at least one team willing to pay him over that $300 million benchmark, which is why he still hasn’t signed.
