Los Angeles Dodgers: Breakdown of why LA is still better than the Phillies
By Jason Reed
The Philadelphia Phillies have officially signed Bryce Harper and are now poised as the biggest challenge to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
We can all finally take a collective breath as the Bryce Harper saga this offseason is over.
Well, we still have names such as Craig Kimbrel and Dallas Kuechel on the market but that is beside the point. The biggest name of the offseason has signed and the Philadelphia Phillies is his new team.
The Phillies signed Harper to a 13-year, $330 million contract on Thursday. Despite the record-breaking figure and the 13 years under contract, this is actually a pretty good contract for Philadelphia. Haters will hate but $25.4 million per year for Harper is a steal.
This is coming after the Los Angeles Dodgers emerged back in the running after meeting with Harper on Sunday. Following the contract, it was reported that the Dodgers offered Harper a four-year deal worth approximately $180 million.
A 30-year old Harper probably could have gotten a 10-year deal worth $200 million, so he probably did lose money. However, I understand wanting to spend those 13 years on one team opposed to multiple.
The Phillies should now be taken seriously, especially after an already stellar offseason. Heck, even I can recognize how stacked this new Philadelphia offense is.
The Phillies certainly are a threat in the National League, however, the Los Angeles Dodgers are still the better all-around team. Here is an in-depth breakdown of the two teams and why the Dodgers are still the NLs best.
