The Los Angeles Dodgers did not sign Bryce Harper after all of the speculation built up over the offseason, which has a good portion of the fanbase upset.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were the early front-runners to sign Bryce Harper during the offseason. However, because of the team’s insistence to sign a short-term deal, talks ultimately fell through.

As Harper’s market began to fall through the Dodger quickly found themselves back in the running. This led to a meeting with Harper on Sunday, three days before he signed a 13-year, $330 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Dodgers weren’t just in the running for Harper, the team offered him a contract with an approximate annual value of $45 million, shattering the all-time record.

It wasn’t meant to be and now the front office has predictably gotten backlash from a portion of the fanbase. While it is not a representation of the fanbase as a whole, there is a good portion that is upset that the Dodgers didn’t fork over the money for Harper.

I mean, c’mon, they offered him a $45 million contract. Just because they didn’t want him long-term does not mean they weren’t willing to pay and go over the luxury tax.

There are people on the other side of the spectrum. While it is okay to question the massive contract and there is a chance the Phillies regret it in the future, Harper has become so underrated by this ordeal. Some fans are pretending like he is not the sensational talent that he is.

Would the Dodgers have been a more talented team with Harper? Absolutely. However, the Los Angeles Dodgers did not even need Harper and there actually are some positives in the team not landing superstar.
