Los Angeles Dodgers: Players that will have a better 19 than Bryce Harper
By Jason Reed
The Philadelphia Phillies introduced Bryce Harper on Saturday after outlasting the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants in the Harper sweepstakes.
The Los Angeles Dodgers made a late push for Bryce Harper, whose market shrank to three teams, but were unable to sign the star. Despite offering him a record-shattering AAV, Harper instead went with the long-term security of a 13-year, $330 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies.
If Harper would have taken the deal with the Dodgers he probably could have made more over the 13 years than he currently is with Philly. However, although it is massive, Harper did take a slight pay cut in terms of AAV in order for the team to have more room for another star.
Some Dodger fans are outraged about not signing Bryce Harper, others are completely discrediting Harper as a bust and someone that is overrated. The truth about Harper falls somewhere in between those vastly different opinions as he is a great player with his best years ahead of him.
And although he absolutely mashes the ball in Citizen Bank Park, there is a chance that Harper might not have all that impressive of a year in his first year in Philly. There are the natural adjustments of uprooting your life plus pitchers seemed to figure Harper out last year.
If you don’t figure Harper out then you just walk him, it is that simple. While he will still be an all-star and have a good year, there are three Dodgers that are primed to have an even better campaign in 2019. Here are those players.
