Los Angeles Rams: Safeties to target in the 2019 NFL Draft
By Jason Reed
Safety is one of the Los Angeles Rams’ several defensive needs this offseason and the team may target the 2019 NFL Draft to fill the void.
The Los Angeles Rams have several defensive needs that the front office needs to take care of this offseason if the team wants to return to the Super Bowl and this time overcome their AFC opposition.
Some of these needs are from people leaving. The most notable name that could be leaving Los Angeles is Ndamukong Suh, who signed a one-year deal with the team last season. While the Rams likely want to bring Suh back, he may go to the highest bidder as he did take a pay cut last offseason to play alongside Aaron Donald.
Another need is at linebacker, both inside and outside. The team traded for Dante Fowler Jr. during the season to help at outside linebacker but now he is a free agent as well. Los Angeles certainly needs help with their backers.
The team also needs some help at safety as it appears that Lamarcus Joyner could be on his way out of Los Angeles after the team franchise tagged him last season. The Rams likely won’t use the franchise tag on him again and might be ready to move on.
John Johnson was a pleasant surprise last season but the Rams still need to fill the void at free safety. Instead of joining in the bidding war for the several solid free agent safeties, the better approach might be to draft a safety that can make an impact right away while growing with the Rams.
Here are three safeties that the Rams could target in the 2019 NFL Draft.
