Los Angeles Rams: Players worth trading up for in the 2019 NFL Draft
By Jason Reed
2. Devin Bush, LB
This year’s draft class is loaded with talented linebackers and is one of the deepest draft classes at the linebacker position in recent memory. Take Devin Bush for example. Bush has all the skills and making of being a borderline top-10 pick but will likely fall to the teens or even the early 20s because of how deep the position is.
Of course, this all depends on evaluation and sometimes NFL teams evaluate certain players in the same position higher than everyone else evaluated them prior to the draft. Bush appears to be behind the elite class in Devin White and Josh Allen but is still a great option nonetheless.
Bush has elite speed and athleticism and is a hard-hitter; he really has the entire package when it comes to linebackers. He can serve as a run-stopper and plug the gaps in the line, can bounce to the outside, can rush and get the quarterback and can drop into coverage.
There are not really any glaring holes with his skill set with the one thing holding him back is his size. Bush is five-foot-eleven, which is size more typical of a defensive back, not a linebacker.
Despite his skill set, there is a worry that coordinators would have to try to mask and hide his size on the field. However, in today’s NFL, it really should not be that big of a deal.
Plus, there is another reason why Bush would be a great addition for the Rams — his father, also Devin Bush, was a member of the St. Louis Rams in 1999 when the team won the Super Bowl. Hopefully, this could be like father like son.
