Los Angeles Dodgers: The biggest storylines for the second half of spring
By Jason Reed
1. What is the team going to do with Julio Urias?
Julio Urias was one of the highest touted prospects as he made his way through the Dodgers’ ranks and even debuted in the MLB at the age of 19 with a smile on his face and a lot to prove.
Urias did just that and was able to get big league hitters out before even turning 20 years old and pitched in the playoffs that very same season. While it was a very green version of what Urias could become, it was an extremely promising sign.
Urias showed more signs of excellence in 2017 before it was announced that he would need anterior capsule surgery on his throwing shoulder. He missed the rest of 2017 and was out until the end of 2018 and now enters 2019 with an innings cap.
However, Urias has pitched phenomenally this spring and it really is hard to gauge what the team is going to do.
Urias deserves to start but the Dodgers don’t want to burn him out at the beginning of the year and have it hurt them in October. The team could use him out of the bullpen but the preparation from the bullpen to the rotation is a challenging one to make and could possibly push his progressions back.
The Dodgers will begin to give us our answer in the next two weeks as it will become clear what role the team is looking to use him in to start 2019.
