Los Angeles Dodgers: Three players that will have career years in 2019
By Jason Reed
1. Enrique Hernandez
You could make the case that 2019 is just going to be the start for Enrique Hernandez and that he can build on it and have even better years in the future. While he might be consistent for longer, this is going to be the year that Hernandez takes that leap.
Hernandez has arguably been the best hitter of Spring Training for the Dodgers. And while Spring Training stats do not matter, they are useful for evaluating how guys are trending entering the year.
This is coming off of a second half of 2018 that was great for Hernandez. Despite struggling immensely in the postseason, Hernandez earned an everyday job in the second half that carried over to 2019.
Hernandez hit .294 with an .837 OPS in the second half of 2018. That included an ice-cold July. From the start of August to the end of the year, Hernandez went 44-126 (.349) with 19 walks and just 18 punch outs.
While Hernandez is not a .350 hitter he is an elite defender that has made some tweaks in his swing for the better. It is not all that crazy to think that he can be an all-star in 2019.
