Con: The natural regressions with age

Perhaps the biggest con with the Los Angeles Rams adding Clay Matthews and the main reason why a fan would be against this signing would be because of his age. As we have seen in every single sport, father time is undefeated and even the best players in the world cannot defeat it.

Some can postpone it, such as Tom Brady in the NFL or LeBron James in the NBA, but it eventually comes for everyone. Plus, Matthews is no Brady or LeBron, so it is bound to come, likely sooner rather than later.

Especially in the NFL in the position that Matthews plays. Football is a physical, violent game and Matthews has been giving and taking massive hits his entire career. Ten years is already a big number in the NFL and every added year is going to take more of a toll.

Matthews will be 33 for the 2019 season and every sign points to him regressing. Matthews was actually better in 2018 than he was in 2017 and 2016, which might make the Rams hopeful that he can trend upwards for another year or two.

However, there is more of a possibility that Matthews has that natural regression, sooner rather than later. That is definitely something the Rams must keep in mind and might keep the team from signing anything more than two years.
