The Toronto Raptors hosted the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night in a matchup that sparked the discussion of Kawhi Leonard being a Laker.

The Los Angeles Lakers went into Toronto for the only time this season and took on Kawhi Leonard and the Raptors. The action on the court was not close, as the Lakers were easily defeated 111-98.

However, it was the post-game handshakes that generated the headlines and went along with the narrative of looking towards the offseason — something Laker fans have accepted doing with the playoffs now out of the picture.

LeBron appeared to tell Leonard that the two “will be in touch,” which sent many in a frenzy considering that the Lakers struck out on Anthony Davis and appear to be out of options.

If there were not any existing connections between Leonard and the Los Angeles Lakers then this probably would not have been such a big deal. However, Leonard was heavily tied to his hometown Lakers last offseason and was up until the San Antonio Spurs got the trade done to send him to the Raptors.

On the surface, it appears that this is just LeBron being hospitable, as he is with every star in the league as he is the ambassador of the league. However, it is hard to ignore this as a gesture of kindness considering the way LeBron conducts business and his past of luring stars to play with him.

Don’t even start to get your hopes up about Kawhi Leonard coming to the Los Angeles Lakers, though. It is never going to happen. Here is why.
