1. The other potential options are highly unlikely

After the Los Angeles Lakers signed LeBron James last summer the opportunities were endless. There were several different superstars that the Lakers were suddenly tied to that many thought would want to play alongside James in Los Angeles.

Now, as we head into the NBA Playoffs and the subsequent offseason, all of those routes have appeared to be blocked. While the options have not completely closed, the chances now are highly unlikely.

The Davis trade already exploded in the Lakers’ face and it does not help that reports indicate that there is no way the Pelicans even consider trading Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Kawhi Leonard has a much better hometown team to join in the Los Angeles Clippers, Kevin Durant likely won’t want to play in LeBron’s shadow after playing in Stephen Curry‘s shadow for three years, Klay Thompson seems content in LA and Kyrie Irving is tied to Durant and the New York Knicks.

Irving actually seems like he could be a Laker as well because of his apologetic comments to James and the way he has defended his former teammate in the media. However, that would mean trading Lonzo Ball or running a unique backcourt of Ball and Irving, which is unlikely.

That leaves Jimmy Butler as the only star that the Lakers can bring in. While there might be other options, such as Tobias Harris or Khris Middleton, that would not be enough for the Lakers to win an NBA Title.

So Butler might be the Lakers’ only option, are the Lakers his only option as well?
