Los Angeles Lakers: Exciting sleeper head coach options
By Jason Reed
It appears as if Luke Walton’s tenure as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers is coming to an end and his reported replacement is not a fan-favorite.
Expectations were high when Luke Walton took over as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. After a string of disappointing coaches in LA (not all of which were because of bad coaches), the Lakers finally were getting someone that had ties with the organization and looked like a winner.
Walton serves as the assistant head coach to Steve Kerr on the Golden State Warriors and even took over head coaching duties when Kerr missed time with a back injury. Although the wins technically went to Kerr, the Warriors started the year 39-4 under Walton.
Granted, the Warriors are one of the best dynasties in NBA history, but at the very least Walton knew what it took to win.
Walton has not been great in Los Angeles, coming in at a time when the team was still on its way up. While it is not entirely fair to judge his performance on his record because of this, Walton still has just a 93-144 record as head coach of the Lakers.
He has struggled to produce consistent rotations that make sense and was making questionable decisions before LeBron James came around. With LeBron now in town, this mediocrity became unacceptable.
Now all signs are pointing to Walton being axed once the season is over and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Kidd is one of the serious candidates if Walton does get axed.
Laker fans have not reacted well to Kidd being the head coach of the Lakers and the other potential suitors are not that great, either.
However, there still are some sleeper options that have not been in the reports for various reasons and would be exciting fits for the Los Angeles Lakers, if it did happen. Here are three exciting sleeper head coach options.
