The future of the Los Angeles Lakers is riding on what the front office does this summer in the offseason and cannot afford to make certain mistakes.

When the Los Angeles Lakers signed LeBron James last year the expectations instantly shot up for fans and those around the league alike. Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka did what they had been promising to do and that is land a massive superstar.

However, the front office failed to follow up on that massive signing with any other great moves. The team ended up striking out on Paul George, who had much stronger connections to the Lakers than LeBron.

The free agents that the team did sign were all one-year veterans who, for the most part, did not fit alongside LeBron James at all.

It was not until later that we learned that LeBron did not essentially choose the Lakers but that Los Angeles chose him. He came to LA to set up life after basketball and has already worked on several different projects. The Lakers were just the better choice between the two LA teams.

And while it is fair to say that the team was very unlucky during the regular season it is also fair to be skeptical of any moves that the front office makes this summer.

There are several different paths that the front office can take and it is not easy running a basketball team. However, it is easy to avoid making these three massive mistakes this offseason.
