1. The Los Angeles Rams do not have many high picks in the draft

Right now the Los Angeles Rams have just one pick in the top-75 and do not have the team’s second pick in the draft all the way until the 95th overall pick. From there, the Rams have both the 95th and 100th overall picks.

The team is without its second-round pick in 2019 as a result of the Marcus Peters trade from the offseason. The team also would have had the 99th pick in the draft if it was not for trading for Dante Fowler Jr. The team still has two late third-round picks because of compensatory picks.

Trading down in the draft can accomplish two things, depending on which route the Rams take. Los Angeles can either trade the 31st overall selection to a team that wants to move up and snag a second and third-round pick in return.

The San Francisco 49ers would be a good target for this trade as the team could get the 36th and 67th overall picks if there is someone that the 49ers want to move up for. Moving back five spots and getting a third-round pick is not so bad.

The other route is the Rams could package late-round picks in the deal to try and get two second-round picks. Perhaps a team like the Houston Texans, who own the 54th and 55th picks in the draft, would trade both those picks to move up 23 spots if there was a sixth or seventh-round pick coming their way.

Either way, trading down in the draft helps eliminate the lack of picks early for the Rams.
