Los Angeles Rams: Biggest remaining needs after free agent signings
By Jason Reed
2. Nose tackle
Again, like the offensive line, the defensive line has been a huge reason for the Los Angeles Rams success over the last two years. Led by the best defensive player in football, Aaron Donald, the Rams defensive line is one of the most terrorizing in the league for opposing quarterbacks.
However, there is a fairly big hole in that line due to the departure of Ndamukong Suh. While Suh has not yet signed with a team, all signs point to him being out of the Rams’ price range, which could lead to the team drafting a stout nose tackle in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Yes, a defensive line that consists of Aaron Donald has a hole in it. It sounds outlandish, I know.
The Rams would be fine without adding a huge impact player there as the team just needs to add an average player there to stay afloat alongside Donald and Michael Brockers. The problem is, though, that this is the last season of Brocker’s contract.
The Rams’ defensive line would be much better with a big-bodied nose tackle that specializes in stuffing runs. Clemson’s Dexter Lawrence is a perfect fit and would be exactly what this line needs.
The Rams do not need a nose tackle that can get to the quarterback and rack up the sacks like Suh. All the team needs is someone that makes them better in stopping the run that can also be better at rushing the quarterback because of Donald’s presence.
