Jason’s pick (Current streak: 2): Justin Turner

Justin Turner has not started 2019 how he would have hoped. After going hitless in five at-bats on Opening Day, Turner followed up with a 1-4 showing with three strikeouts on Friday. Granted, he did reach base three times due to a base hit and two walks, but he did not look great.

His only hit was an infield roller that just escaped Archie Bradley‘s reach and found no man’s land in the infield. He is due for a thundering extra-base hit on Saturday.

Arizona is sending Zack Godley to the mound, who pitches well against the Dodgers. The bats on the Dodgers are hitting just .231 against Godley, despite him being right-handed. Turner is 4-15 lifetime against Godley with all of his hits being extra-base hits.

The fans’ pick (Current streak: 0): Corey Seager

Our fan pick for Saturday night’s game came courtesy of Kallen Fisher Dowdle over on Facebook. Kallen is going with the other core part of the lineup, Corey Seager.

Seager did deliver an RBI base hit last night but was not great otherwise at the plate. The shortstop went 1-6 in the contest with three strikeouts, moving his season total to 2-9, although he does have a .919 OPS in nine at-bats.

It is way too soon to take these sample sizes seriously and Seager is a smart bet for a base hit. He is the best left-handed bat on the Dodgers in terms of recording base hits and has recorded one hit in the first two games.

The only area for concern is Seager’s lifetime totals against Godley. Seager has three hits in 16 at-bats against Godley with three strikeouts.

Trends are made to be broken, though, and if the Los Angeles Dodgers are going to move to 2-1 then they will need base hits from both Justin Turner and Corey Seager.
