Los Angeles Lakers: Why adding Jimmy Butler is better than you think
By Jason Reed
The idea of the Los Angeles Lakers signing Jimmy Butler this offseason is picking up steam and is not one that many fans are particularly fond of.
The entire narrative since Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka took over basketball duties for the Los Angeles Lakers was adding two superstars to help bring the prestige and winning culture back to Los Angeles.
For the most part, aside from having LeBron James practically fall in their lap, the Lakers’ front office has not delivered on that promise. However, they have one more summer to do it, with the offseason arguably being the team’s last chance to bring someone in that will legitimately help contend for a title.
There have been several names floating around, the biggest right now being Anthony Davis. The problem is that the New Orleans Pelicans might not give the Lakers what they want by trading Davis to LA. Options outside of him are slim.
Because of that, Jimmy Butler has become a logical candidate. Butler wants max money but probably won’t get it due to the off-court issues that have followed him everywhere he goes. However, the Lakers, wanting to save face, would probably be willing to be the highest bidder for Butler’s services.
It is two sides that are desperate for the one thing that the other can provide, making it a perfect match.
That does not mean that it is a favorable move. Butler’s antics have turned many against him and if he is the big second star it would be a bit of a letdown.
However, it is not all bad and is not even as bad as the common fan thinks. Here are the two reasons why acquiring Jimmy Butler isn’t all that bad.
