Lance Stephenson: Philadelphia 76ers

Lance Stephenson is at the point of his career where he is not going to get much more than the veteran minimum out of a team and is going to bounce around from team to team on one-year contracts.

Typically, when a veteran player enters this stage of his career he will be snagged by contending teams that have to utilize the veteran minimum in order to fill out the roster. Stephenson is still talented enough to be the ninth guy in a title-contending rotation, especially when the intensity of the playoffs picks up.

Out of all the potential fits for Stephenson that fit these requirements, the Philadelphia 76ers make the most sense. The 76ers are currently experimenting with a big four of Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris.

The 76ers, whether they keep all four or re-sign just one of Butler or Harris, are going to need to fill out the rest of the roster. Key players such as J.J. Redick are hitting the free agent market and the team could use a veteran backup guard.

That is where Stephenson comes in to be the bench piece that also plays the role of disrupter for the team off of the bench. It isn’t a deal that shifts the league at all but Stephenson could certainly have a key moment or two in the playoffs.
