Los Angeles Lakers: The worst moves of Magic Johnson’s tenure
By Jason Reed
Magic Johnson has stepped down as the President of Basketball Operations of the Los Angeles Lakers after just over two years in the role.
When Magic Johnson was hired as the President of Basketball Operations for the Los Angeles Lakers the expectations around the team instantly skyrocketed. Johnson, a huge ambassador of the game, brought prestige with him and the promise of that prestige returning.
And after two full seasons as the President, Johnson has officially stepped down, via an impromptu press conference. Johnson saying himself that he was not enjoying his life in this role and wanted to go back to being an ambassador of the game.
Johnson is leaving the team with LeBron James, which is more than the team had when he was hired, but it has not really been successful for Magic. He made countless questionable moves and now the position that the Lakers are in is much worse than anyone thought it would be.
With that in mind, we thought it was a good idea to remind our readers of all of the bad moves that Johnson has made as the President of Basketball Operations.
And spoiler alert, one of these moves is not trading D’Angelo Russell. It has become a very popular opinion that trading Russell was a bad move. However, for reasons we will probably explain in a different article, it was not one of these awful moves.
