Los Angeles Dodgers: Who is going to stop the five-game skid?
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ season has quickly turned sour as the once 8-2 Dodgers are nearly back to .500 with a five-game losing streak.
The Los Angeles Dodgers looked incredible after the first 10 games of the season and had every fan thinking that 2019 could have been similar to 2017, when the team was so dominant.
The team was quick to remind us of the grind that is the MLB regular season, though, and were promptly swept by the St. Louis Cardinals in four games. The team returned back to LA without a day off to face the Milwaukee Brewers, and once again lose.
This is not indicative of the entire season for the Dodgers and it is way too early to hit the panic button. This beginning stretch of the year, where the team has had one off-day and it was a travel day to Colorado, has been rough. However, it has at least shown some of the cracks on the roster.
The Dodgers will rebound eventually and what is important now is stopping this losing streak before it gets out of hand. The team can still win the last two games of this series to move to 10-7 before facing the Cincinnati Reds.
That is a beatable team and the Dodgers could be a much more promising 12-8 by the time they see the Brewers again.
The Dodgers are going to need the pitching to stay at bay in this game and the way it has been going, are probably going to need a big hit in the late innings to either tie the game or bring the team ahead.
As part of our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series, here is who we have getting that coveted base hit.
Jason’s pick (Current streak: 1): Corey Seager
The Los Angeles Dodgers are facing a very good starter on the bump in Zach Davies, who has a 1.69 ERA in 10.2 innings this season. Davies certainly is hittable, however, and it is going to take the left-handed bats in the order to get the job done.
The left-handed bat we are going with is arguably the best pure hitter on the team, Corey Seager.
Seager started the year off kind of slow as he was getting back into the groove of things after sitting out for a year but has since been better. The former NL MVP finalist went 2-3 on Friday and is hitting .391 over his last seven games.
The fans’ pick (Current streak: 1): N/A
The fans are without a pick for today’s game but it is completely our fault. Working over a week with no days off has led our brains to go a little crazy and completely forget to ask for the fans’ pick for today’s game.
The positive thing is that although Julio Urias went hitless on Friday, the fans’ streak remains at one because he did not log an official at-bat.
