Los Angeles Dodgers looking to avoid second-straight sweep
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the brink of being swept for the second consecutive series and need to put together a collective effort.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were riding a five-game winning streak into St. Louis, going 8-2 in the team’s first 10 games in the process. Since then, the Dodgers have lost six games in a row and now find themselves back at .500.
It has been ugly for the Dodgers, there is no way around. Some games the offense looks awful, as it did on Saturday when the team could only score one run on a Cody Bellinger solo home run.
The pitching, which has received most of the criticism, only allowed four runs. While the goal is usually to hold the opponent to three or fewer, a four-run game is not a bad outing in a bullpen game by the Dodgers.
However, when the offense has been decent the pitching has been poor. The entire team hasn’t been clicking on the same night at all the last six games and it is going to take a big win to shift the emotions for the Dodgers.
It is way too early to panic, we have been emphasizing that during these losses. However, getting swept twice in a row certainly is not the goal.
Either way, we have a series to continue, win lose or draw. Here are our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak selections.
Jason’s pick (Current streak: 0): Cody Bellinger
At this point, the only pick that seems to be a surefire thing is Cody Bellinger. I have been trying to avoid picking Bellinger as a scapegoat of sorts but he is the only hitter on this team that goes out on a nightly basis and gets a base hit.
He is the best hitter in the National League thus far and you could make the case that he has been the best player in the league thus far. Bellinger has been that special and even in this losing streak has kept up his hot streak.
Yet another right-handed pitcher is on the mound in Jhoulys Chacin, someone Bellinger is 5-12 off of with two home runs and a triple.
The fans’ pick (Current streak: 1): Cody Bellinger
The fans have been picking Cody Bellinger nearly every single game and that is no different on Sunday, as Bellinger is once again the fans’ pick.
There is little doubt in my mind that Bellinger gets a base hit, so I expect both streaks to advance. The question is whether or not Bellinger can do enough alongside the rest of the team to get a win.
The Los Angeles Dodgers need to win this game and avoid moving under .500 and getting swept for the second straight series.
