The Los Angeles Lakers have been a dysfunctional mess the last few months and that dysfunction is undoubtedly going to continue into the offseason.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been far from the prestigious team that has existed throughout the franchise’s history. Aside from missing the playoffs the last six seasons, the Lakers have been downright laughable over the last few months, both on the court and behind closed doors.

The signing of LeBron James last summer was supposed to solve this problem for the Lakers and it has only made it worse, something that was kind of predictable based on LeBron’s past with his other teams.

The team peaked on Christmas Day, the same day that James suffered a groin injury, missed over a month and the team plummeted out of the playoff picture.

There was the failed Anthony Davis trade talks, which seemed to create more bad than good for those still on the Lakers. Finally, to wrap the season with the perfect metaphorical bow, Magic Johnson held an impromptu press conference to resign as President of Basketball Operations.

It is safe to say that it is nearly impossible to predict what the Lakers are going to do this offseason. However, there is one thing that we know they should not do.

That is trading Lonzo Ball. There will be countless trade and free agent rumors throughout the season, all centered on who the Lakers are attempting to bring in as a second superstar. Through all of that speculation, Ball should remain as an untouchable trade chip. Here is why.
