Los Angeles Dodgers: Which bat will fry Max Fried?
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers took the first game of a nine-game homestand on Monday and now will face the Atlanta Braves’ best pitcher.
The Los Angeles Dodgers responded the best way the team could after getting a walk-off grand slam hit against them: with a victory. A loss after that heartbreaking loss on Sunday could have potentially snowballed into something bigger.
Instead, the Dodgers walked away with a well-played textbook win on Monday night. There was not anything particularly incredible about the way the Dodgers played, they just played an efficient style of baseball that led to a 5-3 score.
Walker Buehler looked great, allowing just the three runs on two home runs across seven innings. Pedro Baez and Julio Urias were perfect out of the bullpen and the offense did a great job at manufacturing runs.
A Cody Bellinger bunt and an errant throw by Kevin Gausman led to a Corey Seager RBI in the first inning and a passed ball during a bunt attempt by Walker Buehler led to another run in the second. Chris Taylor drove in two more runs and Alex Verdugo had a sacrifice fly to wrap up the offense.
Again, nothing particularly special (including the rare no home run game at home), but the Dodgers were still able to start a nine-game homestand exactly how they wanted.
To be completely honest, we thought the Dodgers had an off-day on Monday so we did not do a Beat the Streak piece, but it did not really matter anyway, as our streak is already at zero.
So, as part of the Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series that we forgot to do, here is who we think will get a base hit off of the Atlanta Braves’ best pitcher to start the season, Max Fried.
Jason’s pick (Current streak: 0): Enrique Hernandez
The Los Angeles Dodgers literally have nothing to show against Max Fried. Out of every hitter on the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team has just nine at-bats against Fried in the regular season and one hit. Two of those at-bats and the only hit was off the bat of Travis d’Arnaud, who the team just signed on Sunday.
Chris Taylor has the most at-bats against Fried in the regular season with three, but we obviously are not going with him.
Instead, we are going with another right-handed bat that typically hits southpaws fairly well, Enrique Hernandez.
Hernandez will most likely get the start with a southpaw on the mound and has been slumping as of late. However, he is still putting good swings on the ball and hit a towering foul ball on Monday that traveled all the way to the nosebleeds.
It is only a matter of time before Hernandez explodes for a towering home run, which feels like what is going to happen on Tuesday night.
