The Los Angeles Lakers are in pursuit of some star power this offseason but that does not mean the team should jump at any player with star power.

This offseason is one of the most important offseason in franchise history for the Los Angeles Lakers. What the team is able to accomplish this summer will dictate if the team is able to contend in the coming years or if the building over the last years is for nothing.

Of course, there is more than one way to be successful and the Lakers don’t need to make the biggest signing of the summer to be successful. But if the team is not better entering next season than it was this season, well, it is hard to bet on a young core with no experience and an aging LeBron James with no other all-stars.

The fact that the West is going to potentially be wide open makes it even more important for the Lakers. Kevin Durant potentially leaving the Golden State Warriors really opens up the path through the West for the Lakers and a second star could legitimately make the Lakers the favorites in the West.

While adding star power definitely is the number one priority for the team this offseason, the front office cannot simply chase any free agent that some star power. Here are three free agents with relative star power that the Lakers should avoid.
