Los Angeles Lakers: What is the best-case scenario this offseason?
By Jason Reed
2. Sign Seth Curry and JaVale McGee
The Los Angeles Lakers are not going to have much salary cap space available after signing Leonard to a max contract so the team has to be smart with who they bring in. The team realistically has room for one minor contract and then will have to turn to rookie contracts or veteran minimum deals.
In the best-case scenario, the Lakers use the minor contract that they can fit under the salary cap for Seth Curry. Curry has quietly been one of the best three-point shooters in the league and would be a great shooting point guard to bring off the bench behind Lonzo Ball next season.
The veteran minimum contract that the Lakers should look to sign is none other than JaVale McGee. McGee was surprisingly good for the Lakers this season and earned another contract from the team to contend for a title.
McGee adds that rim protection and is good for a few open looks throughout the game. He might not have the most star power but he has the veteran experience needed and can still effectively play his role.
The Lakers could even add more veteran minimum contracts to bolster the depth, which would be fine. The team is probably going to need to add to the center position anyways. However, those other signings would play just a minimal role compared to Seth Curry and JaVale McGee.
