3. Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics went out with a whimper in the second round of the NBA Playoffs, falling four games to one to the Milwaukee Bucks and not looking all that great while doing so.

With the previous comments that Irving has made about July 1 and the newfound disdain towards him in the Boston fanbase, it seems more likely than not that Irving will play for a different team in 2019.

While the consensus favorite is teaming up with Kevin Durant on the New York Knicks, you certainly cannot rule the Lakers out because of the familiarity that Irving has with LeBron James.

If you are a constant reader here at LA Sports Hub then you will know that we actually made the case for the Lakers avoiding Irving. However, we made that case under the precedent that Ball would be on the roster. Without Ball, there is an opening for Irving.

The reason this is so intriuging is that if the Lakers trade Ball, Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma for Davis then the team would be able to sign Irving as long as he takes a few millions worth of a pay cut.

The rest of the roster certainly would be a puzzle to piece together but the potential trio of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis is a significantly better version than Cleveland’s big three with Kevin Love.

Re-sign JaVale McGee and one other veteran to a veteran minimum and draft smart and the Lakers would have a nine-man rotation with Josh Hart as well.

Next. Stars the Lakers should avoid. dark

And as you may have noticed, there are some big-name exclusions on this list, particularly Kemba Walker. While there definitely is more than three options for the Lakers if they go down this path, Walker should not be one of them.
