Los Angeles Dodgers: Looking to end the homestand with a bang
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers are wrapping up a nine-game homestand on Wednesday, looking for a short two-game sweep of the San Diego Padres.
The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the team’s current nine-game homestand as the best team in Major League Baseball at home and have not disappointed in the eight games thus far.
The Dodgers are 6-2 in the current homestand and are looking to go 7-2 with a win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. A win on Wednesday would also give the Dodgers the series sweep over the Padres, who are in LA for a very short two-game series.
After an off-day on Monday, the team is off again on Thursday, except this time it is a travel day to get ready for a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds this weekend. The Dodgers have both Monday and Thursday off next week as well, sandwiched by a two-game series against the red-hot Tampa Bay Rays.
Finally, the Dodgers finish up an eight-game road trip with a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates the following weekend. All in all, the Dodgers will be away from LA for 11 days, so getting this last win at home would be huge to start the road trip hot.
The Dodgers proved that the offense is one of the best in the league on Tuesday night as the team knocked promising young arm Chris Paddack around for six runs. On Wednesday, the Dodgers will see southpaw Matt Strahm, who the team has a .400 batting average against in 15 at-bats.
As part of our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series, here is who we think will deliver the fireworks against Strahm.
Jason’s pick (Current streak: 5): Justin Turnner
Justin Turner has been really good since the calendar turned to May. After a slow April that saw virtually no power numbers, Turner is hitting .326 this month with five home runs, 11 RBIs and a 1.117 OPS in 11 games.
Turner actually went hitless on Tuesday night for only the second time this month. All in all, Turner has reached base safely via a base hit in 13 of his last 15 games.
Because of his tendency to get better in the month of May and his recent trends of getting base hits, Turner seems like a near lock to get at least one base hit against a young southpaw.
Not only will he record a base hit, but Turner will have a huge extra-base hit in this contest and will drive in at least two RBIs. All we need is one, though!
