Los Angeles Dodgers: Looking to start road trip 2-0
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers started an eight-game road trip with a fairly dominant win over the Cincinnati Reds and look to repeat the feat on Saturday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are entering an eight-game road trip on the heels of a nine-game homestand in which the team went 7-2 to assert themselves as the best team in the National League.
The Dodgers also headed into this road trip with a .500 record on the road. While it certainly could be worse, the Dodgers definitely want to bolster that road record with this eight-game road trip.
The trip started on the right foot with exactly the kind of win that the team was looking for to start the road trip. Even when making outs, the Dodger bats were smacking the ball around the yard, leading to a 6-0 victory in which the offense garnered 10 hits.
Rich Hill was phenomenal on the bump as well, delivering one of his vintage Rich Hill performances. Hill pitched six scoreless, allowing just two hits, walking none and striking out 10.
That is the kind of win that will give a team momentum as they travel across the country for the next week and a half. On Saturday, the team looks to capitalize on that momentum against another right-handed pitcher and with Walker Buehler on the mound.
As part of our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series, here is who we think will get at least one base hit in Saturday’s contest.
Jason’s pick (Current Streak: 0): Matt Beatty
I was finally starting to gain some stream with my hitting streak before selecting Justin Turner to get a base hit on Wednesday after going hitless on Tuesday. Turner went hitless on Wednesday, which led me to go with him yet again on Friday.
Turner went hitless in his third consecutive game, burning me twice in a row. However, more importantly, Turner only had two at-bats in the game after fouling a ball off of his leg. While it appears to be nothing serious, it is getting him the day off with Max Muncy starting at third and rookie Matt Beaty starting at first.
And that is who we are going with: Matt Beaty. This is Beaty’s second big league stint thus far this season and if you were a consistent watcher during Spring Training then you would know he can certainly handle the bat against big league pitching.
The left-handed hitting Beaty has two hits in four at-bats in his big league career thus far. He is going to continue his .500 average across an extremely small sample size with a 2-4 game on Saturday.
