After sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates at their home ballpark, the Los Angeles Dodgers return home for a four-game series against the New York Mets.

The Los Angeles Dodgers‘ eight-game road trip was fairly successful as the team was able to improve on their .500 road record entering the trip. The Dodgers went 6-2 in the road trip, winning two of the three series and splitting the other.

Now, the Dodgers return home, where they are the best team in baseball, to host the New York Mets in a four-game series and then the Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game series. Statement wins against both teams would undoubtedly skyrocket the Dodgers as the best team in baseball.

The Mets might not have one of the best records in the league but they have been hot as of late and boast a scary rotation that the Dodgers are getting the brunt of. Jacob deGrom and Clayton Kershaw are set to square off Monday and Noah Syndergaard and Walker Buehler are set for Wednesday.

Offense is not going to be as easily obtainable as it was in Pittsburgh, where the Dodgers scored a combined 28 runs. Not only are the Boys in Blue going to need great pitching (which they have had all season), but the offense is going to have to come up with big hits when it matters most.

As part of our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series, here is who we think can record at least one base hit against deGrom and the Mets and hopefully have it be a big one.

Jason’s pick (Current streak: 3): Corey Seager

The Los Angeles Dodgers understandably do not have great numbers against Jacob deGrom, although deGrom has been banged up by this team before. All in all, the Dodger batters boast a .175 batting average in 80 collective at-bats.

There are two Dodgers that stand out when it comes to the batter-pitcher matchup, one a left-handed bat and one a right-handed bat.

Chris Taylor is the right-handed bat as he is 3-4 off of deGrom in his career with a home run and an RBI. However, Taylor has not been great this season and that could have just been the result of one hot showing. I am not putting my eggs in that basket.

The other is Corey Seager, who has four hits in eight at-bats against deGrom, including two doubles. Not only is Seager the better all-around hitter, but the left-handed on right-handed matchup is much more favorable than going with CT3.

Seager still is not fully himself yet after coming back from Tommy John but he has shown great signs over the last few weeks. That trend will continue as he will record two hits against the Mets on Memorial Day.
