The Los Angeles Dodgers likely just had the best regular season win of the 2019 campaign and can follow it up by taking three of four against the New York Mets.

It is going to be hard for the Los Angeles Dodgers to follow up what they did on Wednesday night against the New York Mets. Down by five runs entering the bottom of the seventh inning, it appeared as if the Dodgers were all about done for the night.

This is no terrible bullpen the Dodgers were facing, either. The Mets have the best closer of the last two years in Edwin Diaz closing out ball games and a guy that was once an elite closer in Jeurys Familia throwing the eighth inning.

Justin Turner started the rally with an RBI single in the seventh inning, although at the time it didn’t appear to be anything but a moral victory for Turner. Corey Seager followed suit with a solo home run the following inning, giving the Dodgers a three-run deficit to overcome in the ninth.

That is when the magic happened, magic that is similar to the 2017 Dodgers, who simply could not lose. Joc Pederson and Max Muncy started the inning with back-to-back home runs, Pederson’s being so impactful due to the battle he endured.

Justin Turner hit a rope down the left field line, Cody Bellinger sent a heat-seeking missle into right-center and suddenly, like a flash of lightning, the Dodgers had tied the game.  Seager was intentionally walked, Matt Beaty reached on an infield single and Alex Verdugo won it with a sacrifice fly.

That is probably going to be the win of the regular season for the Dodgers. It is going to be hard to top a five-run comeback, especially considering the team scored four in the ninth against the game’s best closer.

The MLB machine keeps moving along though and now the Dodgers have a chance to take three of four against the Mets with Hyun-Jin Ryu on the mound. Ryu boasts a 1.22 ERA at Dodger Stadium this season, so runs might be at a premium for the Mets.

The Dodgers should be looking to keep the hit train chugging along against southpaw Jason Vargas. As part of our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series, here is who we think will get at least one base hit in Thursday’s finale.

Jason’s pick (Current streak: 6): Enrique Hernandez

Just a bit of a humblebrag, the players I have been selecting have been great on this six-game hitting streak. While it has been easy to build a streak because the offense has been so good the last week, the hitters I am selecting have truly been special.

Last night Corey Seager went 3-4 with three extra-base hits after I selected him, no biggie. I also picked Justin Turner in the game in Pittsburgh where he set a career record with a 5-5 outing, no biggie.

Tonight, I am going with someone who is prone to have these huge breakout games a handful of times in a season and is truly due for one desperately: Enrique Hernandez. Hernandez has been ice cold as of late with a bit of bad luck as he has made some blistering outs.

Jason Vargas is the perfect southpaw to get Hernandez hot. Vargas is not a hard thrower and is more of a precision pitcher who has not been so precise this year with a 5.22 ERA.
