Honorable Mention

  • George Mikan 1949 BAA Finals Game 1 vs. Washington Capitals

  • Points: 42

Before there was even an NBA, professional basketball was split among the midwest heavy National Basketball League and the eastern oriented Basketball Association of America. Before their merger, the Minneapolis Lakers brought their superstar center George Mikan to the BAA.

In his first game for the title against the Washington Capitals, Mikan scored 42 points, making 14 field goals and hitting 14 of 16 free throws. Mikan’s points total would be the highest in the Finals for the first decade of the league’s existence.

Mikan and the Lakers would win the game and the series kicking off the league’s first dynasty by winning five titles in the early ’50s.
