  • Jerry West 1969 NBA Finals Game 7 vs. Boston Celtics

  • PTS: 42 REB: 13 AST: 12

Playing with a thigh injury and a pulled hamstring, Jerry West valiantly tried to will the Lakers to a game seven win at home against the hated Boston Celtics. Ultimately it was not meant to be, West had a triple-double in a 108-106 loss.

The loss meant that the Lakers would lose their sixth finals of the 1960s all to the Boston Celtics. The loss was all the more bitter as West was rewarded for his efforts by being named the first most valuable player of the NBA Finals.

To this day, West is still the only player to win the Finals MVP while playing for the losing team yet he never beat the Celtics in the NBA Finals as a player.
