  • Wilt Chamberlain 1972 NBA Finals Game 5 vs. New York Knicks

  • PTS: 24 REB: 29 AST: 8 BLK: 8 (unofficial)

By the 1972 season, the Los Angeles Lakers were still seeking their first NBA title after moving to Los Angeles. With core players Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain getting older and Elgin Baylor newly retired, the 1972 NBA Finals served as last chance for the team to finally win that title.

Going into game five the Lakers held a 3-1 series lead with a chance to clinch the title at home. Unfortunately, Chamberlain sustained injuries to both wrists and had to play with soft casts on both wrists.

Despite his injuries Chamberlain made sure the Lakers would not be denied flirting with a quadruple double with 24 points, 29 rebounds, eight blocks and eight assists in 47 minutes.

Blocks were not official stats yet, but Chamberlain’s presence in the middle stymied the Knicks and the Lakers clinched their first title in LA, 114-110.
