Still seeking his first NBA title without Shaquille O’Neal on the Los Angeles Lakers, Kobe Bryant sent a message to the Orlando Magic that he would not be denied after losing to the Boston Celtics in 2008.

Bryant went off for 40 points, a career high for him in NBA Finals play and still a Lakers record for points scored in under 40 minutes.

Bryant played a complete game nearly gaining a triple-double, rolling eights in assists and rebounds. Bryant’s game score remains in the top 10 all-time in Lakers Finals games.

Bryant and the Lakers blowout win 100-75 started the Lakers on their five game series win and clinched their 15th all-time title, for Bryant it led to his first NBA Finals MVP as well.
