Thoughts from Jamaal Artis

The Los Angeles Lakers have two of the top 5 players in the NBA in the presence of Anthony Davis and Lebron James. Now the real test begins, how do they maximize their talent by filling out their roster.

Put me in the category that says no matter their cap space they need to avoid signing a max contract. There is one caveat for me, if the Lakers increase their cap space to sign a max contract it should only be for Kawhi Leonard.

Since there’s a better chance for me to sprout wings and fly than for Leonard to sign with the Lakers, I would prefer the Lakers use their cap space more liberally.

Whether it’s 23, 27, or 32 million it would be best if the Lakers spread the money around to round out their depleted roster. The Lakers need to shore up their depth in the backcourt, they need shooters, and they need some maturity.

A lot of teams in the NBA have cap space this summer, the Lakers will have competition for bringing people in. But no team can offer the combo of Davis and Lebron. The Lakers can’t make the same mistakes from 2018, they must find the right pieces to win a NBA title.
