Los Angeles Dodgers look to bounce back on Clayton Kershaw day
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers are sending Clayton Kershaw to the mound on Saturday after finally losing to the Colorado Rockies after 12 games.
The Los Angeles Dodgers had a 12-game winning streak against the Colorado Rockies entering Friday’s contest that came to an end in yet another Coors Field slugfest. Hyun-Jin Ryu not only allowed more than two earned runs for the first time this year but got blown up for seven earned runs.
The Dodger offense did what they could and scored nine runs, backed by another great performance by Max Muncy. However, that ultimately was not enough on the board as the Rockies scored 13 runs to avoid losing a 13th in a row.
Hopefully, that offense does not continue into Sunday as the Dodgers have Clayton Kershaw on the mound. If the Rockies once again have a great offensive game they will have hit the three best pitchers on the Dodgers in a row.
Chances are there are going to be a good amount of runs with the Coors Field altitude and the hot summer air. However, if Kershaw can limit baserunners he can easily have a quality start, only allowing a solo home run or two.
That might be optimistic based on how this series is going but that means that the Dodgers are going to score runs as well. And as part of our Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak series, this is who we think can get at least one base hit.
Jason’s pick (Current streak: 5): Cody Bellinger
I just went with Cody Bellinger the other day and the last thing I like to do is pick someone within a few days. However, Bellinger has such an insane stat line against opposing pitcher, Jon Gray, that it is hard to ignore and select someone else.
Bellinger has 11 career at-bats against Gray with eight base hits, four of which are extra-base hits. Sure, he might not have a homer against Gray but it hard to go against the guy that is hitting .727 against the opposing starting pitcher.
Bellinger is bound to hit a home run in this game, lock it in. There is no way that he walks out of this game without a home run facing a pitcher he absolutely dominants in the hitting conditions that he is hitting in.
Oh, and let’s not forget that Bellinger went 0-5 in Friday’s game. Not only is his statistically due for at least one base hit, but he is also probably pretty upset with his performance and wants a big offensive showing.
